New Zealand’s National Coastal Change Dataset is provided under a CC BY-NC license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/). However, uses beyond the scope of this license, such as those invoking dual licensing provisions, may be considered. We encourage the use of the dataset for coastal hazard planning purposes, which can include commercial applications like the development of coastal hazard assessments and reports by consultancies, research institutes, universities, and other parties. For such purposes, we will consider granting a separate license. Please submit your request to the permissions address listed below for consideration.

This map is based on historical coastal positions interpreted from aerial photographs and satellite images. The map depicts rates of coastal change (erosion and accretion) at 10 m increments around most of the open coast. The rate of change is subject to errors associated with image quality, image processing, and interpretation of the coastline. The rate of change is an estimate only and subject to uncertainty. We make no representations or warranties or guarantees as to the accuracy of the data, the map, or any other content.
